The POWER Project, presented Trauma, Substance Use and Older Adults with Guest Speaker Dr. Laurie Markoff, Hosted by Mystic Valley Elder Services in Malden, MA, January 2020. This training is for people who work with older adults or any trauma survivor struggling with a substance/opioid use disorder. The training describes the different pathways by which the impact of trauma may be encountered among older adults and how the impact of trauma can negatively affect their quality of life. The overlap between trauma and substance/opioid use were also discussed. Specific issues to consider when working with those affected by trauma and substance/opioid use were discussed, as well as what is known about treating the impact of trauma and substance/opioid use. This was a fantastic training event,, thank you Dr. Markoff!
