This is really sad. The first time i heard about the story of Catherine Genovese in the classroom i felt like crying. I know most of this neighbors would live with the guilt for the rest of their lives. I could not believe that nobody call 911 or scream just to scare the murderer. if this could happened in 1964, i would no longer be surprised with all the videos posted on social media. Bystander effect had become social phenomenon. We forget our responsibilities. We always believe someone else is going to take action.

I think the bystander effect is real. A lot of people set in their minds that someone else will call or do something. I really don’t understand how people can witness someone in desperate need of help and not do anything. Doing something doesn’t necessarily mean you can to physically involve yourself in whats going on but calling the police could have saved her. It is sad because in this day and age we record everything before calling for help. Which is the same as not doing anything. I think that people should know when to distinguish when an action is morally wrong and do better.

This is so sad. I cant get over the fact that all them people watched her but yet i expected nothing less. This makes me think of the recent murder in New York of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz A.K.A Junior. Everyone pulled out there cell phones to tape the attack but no one intervined while he was being dragged outside to be stabbed with machettees. If one person wouldve said something or did something everyone else would have stepped up and assisted. For me society is likes playing follow the leader so I strongly believe if one person has thought about their social responsibility both parties would most likely be a live. There was one attackers and 30 + neighbors they could’ve easily over powered him and saved her life. I guess they couldve been scared for their lives but to sit and watch her be murdered like that is disturbing and would definitly not happened that way if it was a relative or a close friend. Which brings me back to social responsibilities. Those neighbors didnt feel like they had to step up or needed to because in their eyes she wasnt of personal importance to them and thats the saddest part of all.

How sad it is to know that there was a large sum of people at the site of the events, and no one took the initiative to help Kitty, since it is usually easier to prevent something bad from happening when there are several people. It seems totally unfair to me the acts of this event, it is something too crazy and inhuman what this woman lived. Kitty only was doing the same thing as many of us, working to survive. Not all of us have the same working hours, nor the same jobs, but for sure we each fulfill an essential job in the community, and the minimum that we should have is security to go home to rest. New York, one of the places where there are always activities around 24/7 and that people, if they deserve to be called that, decide to close their window or door, and ignore this act of violence creates me much indignation.

I watched the Kitty Genovese video a few times and for every time I watched it I just could not believe that no one stepped in to help. This 28 year old young lady was screaming for help and there were two men that made it a point to open the window where one even shouted “leave her alone” but yet did not pick up his phone and call 911.
Winston Moseley ran to his car and waited in his car for ten minutes and because he did not see nor hear sirens, he went back out to “finish the job” which at that moment he felt he could probably get away with it. In those ten minutes Kitty who had been stabbed and was still yelling for help had been struggling as she was trying to walk to safety but still she was on her own. I can’t get over that while Winston was stabbing Kitty and sexually assaulting her, there were people that opened the doors and still did nothing. At first I thought, maybe no one came out for safety reasons but a call could have saved her life. While Kitty was being stabbed and sexually assaulted, those residents that opened their door a few times certainly were not scared to be seen. Growing up in a city with high crime rate, many residents may feel they have to look the other way out of fear. People may not want to put their safety at risk but still out of 38 individuals NO ONE did anything!!
I was born and raised in an urban community where there was high crime rate and I was taught to “mind my business” to a certain extent. I don’t think I could look the other way when someone’s life is in danger. I would at least call for help. The sad thing is still in 2019 the Bystander effect is very real and we also have street code in urban communities such as “no snitching” and again for safety reasons, you are taught to keep say nothing.

As sad as it is to admit, the Kitty Genovese situation is not all that shocking to me. People will only take some sort of action if it’s either benefitting them, or involving them. Whether it’s out of fear or selfishness, I do not know, but the Bystander Effect is very much real. This case is over forty years old and sadly, still relevant to this day. Nowadays we have our phones to record everything, instead of calling the police or helping someone who is in trouble we would much rather film what is happening and upload it for a few clicks and views. The fact that this was a random murder is even more heartbreaking because she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. I wonder why people didn’t help, maybe they were afraid they would also get hurt? Either way, she would’ve been alive if someone just called the police when the perpetrator left the first time.

It is so heartbreaking watching and realizing how people’s negligent behavior can actually lead to someones demise. I am not surprise about the amount of people reported watching by New York Times because, the bystander effect is a problem we are still facing in our society today. No one wants to get involve even when circumstances prove that someone is hurt. By not getting involve means you are also part of the problem. we as a society can do better by getting involve and making sure our environment is safe. it could have been anyone at that point in time. we need to be each others keeper.

The Bystander effect video is truly heart breaking and goose bumps tending. The video is about selfishness of human behavior not to be involve in others business. The fact that 38 persons saw the event happening dare to call “911’ for help, raised a question in my heart about the law enforcement system in 60’s. The facts that no one stood and took initiation at least call for help for the poor lady suffering from multiple stab wounds is a tragedy. People did not want to do something or scared to take action though all the legal process and rather expected other to help her which also gives the hint of the bias nature. The news was covered after two days of incident also raises the different questions. I think its human nature too, no one wants to help other or think scary too sacrifice oneself for others. The Bystander effect is a reflection of degradation of norms of society influence of anti social attitude.

After watching this video, I realized how society has lost the compassion for each other and it’s getting the worst by the minute. It amazes me how nobody intervened with this traffic attack. If the witness didn’t want to get physically involved they should’ve at least called the police or something, instead of walked by and expecting that someone else would do something. This type of behavior shocks me, just for the fact that the murderer had the audacity to go back and finish his crime. Unbelievable how cruel and cold the human being can be, and I mean on both sides the murderer ans the witness that didn’t do anything about it. “If” at least one person tried to intervene by helping the crime victim the outcome would’ve been much different. Nowadays with all this technology, I truly believe thing are getting way worse, people care more about the “likes” on social media than anything else. It’s just sad.

I feel pity for Kitty Genovese because she was killed by a random guy who just felt the compulsion of killing someone. It is horrifying what Winston Moseley did to this poor young girl and how nobody in the neighborhood helped Kitty in this time of distress. How did one single person not even help her when she needed it. I just can’t wrap my mind around the fact that one person didn’t come out and help Kitty or call the police. People were so sacred to get involved that they just witnessed her getting killed and it is absolutely disgraceful how Winston found her a second time to finish the job and the people at the top of the stairs peeked several times without even coming out once to help the poor young girl. The bystander effect is stunning and shows how people lack responsibility and don’t even take a small action to help someone who is in dire need of it. This goes to show how people are the most useless in a time of need.

The Bystander Effect is so difficult to accept the truth. How can a man after going around doing his daily, had one goal in mind to kill a woman and he went out at night to hunting for a victim. Unfortunately Kitty was the victim. Again 38 people watched she been killed in 30min as if they where watching a TV show and she was screaming and calling for help, without helping her or call 911. I started wondering how possible it can be for all 38 people to put on an inhuman act and have no conscience. To me the killer alone did not kill Kitty, his neighbors contributed if they could have call 911 he could not have come back the second time so she could have been safe. They all have different way of thinking and perceiving but end up acting the same. This shows us that we should never depend on any body to help us. we need to be more carefull.

I can believe this. This video makes me to get in shock. I can believe How 38 people can see how a person is suffering, at the point of almost lose her live and no one does anything to help her. It is sad and the worst thing is that now it happens every single day. Now, people don’t care about others, people are too selfish and they do not have compassion for others. At this time people just care what they can publish at the social media. Even if they see that someone else is taking someone’s life, how it happened to this innocent girl, they just care in what they can publish at the social media to see others opinions. But they are not interested to save other’s life. A lot of people say that they do not want to be involved in those kind of situation because it has consequences in the future. But the only action that those bystanders have to do is simple, just calling to 911 and in this way people can save thousand of lives.

I am still in shock that such a thing can happen, you would never expect a normal girl from NYC to become the victim of a sick murderer. As discussed in class, it is unnatural for someone to suddenly have an urge to kill, it must take severe circumstances to motivate such action or some type of mental disorder. We have already discussed child abuse which is a factor that often contributes to these events. But what was more alarming was that these people around her refused to do anything about her well being, instead theyw ere spectators who questioned their role in the scene. This somewhat outlines the selfishness that human beings inherit as they are raised in society today, we are very self-conscious of our own well being and because of that, we become somewhat self-centered. This situation displays that we are not used to stepping up for others in need and that not all of us are as great of human beings as we depict ourselves as.

This video was very interesting considering the effects and the sorrow that follows this video. it is very much a shame in the way that it had to do with people not wanting to risk their lives to at least try to save another and one of theses things has to do with, if no one else is doing it then they shouldn’t either and so it is and effect that can effect so many other people. if the bystander effect was not something that happened on a regular basis i would assume a lot of people would be here with us today.

Kitty was just a normal girl living in New York. Then comes along someone who just had this urge to kill someone who happened to be Kitty. This is tragic because no one deserves to lose their life just like that. She did nothing wrong! However, what was most disappointing was the 38 bystanders who knew it was happening and did nothing. They thought that the best option was to stay inside their houses and wait till it was over AND THEN call the police 30 minutes later. The thing is, if they took immediate action, they could have probably save Kitty in time. Also, it was a knife, not a gun. All they had to do was find a weapon bigger than that and attack. In addition to that, it was 38 people against 1 man, it wouldn’t have been difficult to take him down. Honestly, these bystanders could have done something. Now it just shows that they really don’t care about others but themselves. They should have thought, “If I were in her position, wouldn’t I want some kind of help?” Except no, they were relieved that they weren’t her and wanted to stay out of it.

It’s honestly disappointing that 38 people witnessed the process of her getting murdered but no one did anything to stop it like calling police or anything until 30 minutes after. Like were they charged for just watching and doing nothing to save her? Or were they let go and not charged? Also, was it a murder with a motive other than just killing a women? I’ve seen moments in movies and stuff where people bully others, yet no one does anything to stop them and I was wondering why didn’t they do anything? But is the bystander effect proven to be real? Or is it just a theory at this time? If any one of them had called or took action to prevent the further damage, she could have lived today and she could have thrived and could have became someone who could change the world until the murder that so many people witnessed.

After This Video, I Am Left Completely Shocked. How Could Someone Wake Up One Day, Go To Work Like Usual , Have A Regular Day But Have This Urge To Want To Kill Someone? Poor Kitty, I Cant Even Say It Was At The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time Because She Wasnt In The Wrong Place, She Was Heading Home, Yes It Was The Wrong Time But Noone Ever Expects To Go Somewhere And Have Something So Horrendous Have To Happen. The Fact That Noone Did Anything Not Even Call The Police For A Simple Noise Complaint Is Baffling! If It Was One Of Them They Would Want The Help Kitty Was Looking For. There Was Absolutely No Reaction From The Bystanders They Thought It Would Be Best To Just Close The Doors, Lock Them, Shut The Blinds And Ignore What Was Happening Right Outside Their Doorstep. This Just Proves That People Really Dont Care About Others But Just Themselves, If It Was Them Im 100% They’d Expect Some Type Of Help. I am completely astonished after watching this video. Kitty was just the average NYC girl living her life and working her tail off until a sick person decides out the blue to go on a hunt for someone to kill. Which makes me horrified, because what are the chances you were at the wrong place at the wrong time with a soon to be murderer in the same area. It scares me because I walk a lot and what if it happened to me? Also, the fact that no one even called the police is mind-boggling, I understand that sometimes people do not want to get involved with someone else’s business especially when it can harm their safety but when its a life or death situation it’s mandatory to do something about. All of this led to the killer finding her the second time and that’s when I realized how bad the Bystander effect was. Had someone called the police even if they weren’t sure what was going on she might have been saved however the murderer didn’t hear anything and decided to finish her. Overall just a sad story which I wish is never repeated again in the future.

This is very sad and shocking. It makes me realize that anyone can go through the same situation and it’s scary to think no one will help. She was helpless and everyone watched. The fact that in the video it stated 38 people watched for 30 minutes and everyone who was questioned about it was denying the accusations or saying the reporter was exaggerating is very sad. Especially because Kitty will never be able to tell her story. If only those who peeked out or just assumed she was “drunk” is even more upsetting instead of asking her if everything was ok after seeing a male over her while she laid on the floor, it’s shocking that the bystander affect still exist in this world. For example with bullying or even death that happens till this day. What upsets me more is that no one does anything at the moment or even thinks to care unless a reporter tells the story or the incident is all over the news. This video for me was very sad but very eye opening.

The Bystander affect is so real and is now turned into the video affect. It’s scary the way people think that someone else will call 911 or that they don’t want to get involved in cases. I believe now in the years of social media that bystanders see something going on and they are quick to take out there phones to video tape it and upload it live on social media instead of helping the person out. We see it more often now in so many cases that the situation was uploaded live on Facebook or snapchat but police were not called to actually help the person out. It is very scary that we as humans have come to this. We have lost empathy and humanity and have now fallen into the wanting attention or most views. Very scary to think what she was thinking as she screamed for help and saw her neighbors opening their doors and doing nothing.

It shows that in these days people are more concerned with themselves and do not have empathy for others. Perhaps people did not act out of fear of something bad happening with them, maybe they thought “why should I submit to danger for someone unknown?”. Anyway, if everyone that saw, or at least someone, had done something it could have ended differently.

It’s actually terrifying to think that people can hear and see something like that happen and not do anything. Especially when you think about how it wasn’t completely dark out and there were people who saw what was happening. If someone had intervened at any time before the man had gotten away it could have had a very different outcome but no one came to help. The bystander effect is terrifying in and of itself.

The video “What would you do” is a perfect example on what really happens on a daily basis, when women in general becomes victims of predators. I commend all the people that actually stepped in and didn’t let the teenager go with the older male. As for the ones that didn’t, a quick call to the police would also been a help even if they didn’t want to interact with the male. I strongly commend the group of teens that stepped in and took it a step further by inviting the girl to come sit with them so then man can leave her alone. Those that has a voice and aren’t afraid to use it can save lots of live. To those that are scared to use their voice, I hope they can build strength to do so, and not wait for the situation to get worse to then use it.

She could have survived if someone has spoken out. The fact that this man was hunting “to kill” a female is sick. Why do people think like that? Why do people think it’s ok to take someone’s life? As I thought about it a little more, I realize that people may not have stopped it because they didn’t want to be call a “snitch”. Or they didn’t want to put their family in danger. The way I think about it is, in a situating like this we have to take into consideration and ask ourselves, what if this lady was our mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin or friend. Would we want neighbors to get help or would we want them to just ignore it?

The obedience to authority video unfortunately shows the way and the distance an innocent person can go to basically harm another human being because he is trying to just be obedient to a person of supposedly “higher authority”. In a way we are taught and expected to obey this authority but to what point? when do we start questioning this authority and decide that enough is enough? do we keep obeying blindly or our moral values take over and do what we feel is right? I commend the gentleman doing the test because he felt and knew that it was wrong to keep administering the test without any consideration for the guy taking the test. The prison experiment test is also unfortunate because it shows what humans can do when they are given free reign over another group of people who they see as inferior or criminals. They are also given the tools ( sunglasses ) to hide their characters so they can become someone else to feel better about themselves I believe. The experiment goes too far even to the point that it changes the psychologists actual view of the experiment because they start seeing it as just an experiment without realizing that the prisoners were actually being psychologically, emotionally, and physically hurt until a third party comes in and sees what the experiment is actually doing to the prisoners and reprimands the people in charge. I also commend this lady because she spoke up and therefore the project was terminated. If not it could have ended even worse than what it was!.

WOW!! Shocking and saddening to have seen these two videos. The bystander effect is really shocking because not only did people saw that Kitty was assaulted the first time and no one did anything to help and the perpetrator saw that no one came to help her and went back a second time to finish the job!! I understand the bystander effect where everyone thinks that maybe someone else will jump in and do something but come on it is almost unbelievable that these people had a chance to save her life the first time but all of them decided not to and allowed the perpetrator to come back and finish killing her. Just sad. The second video is just as shocking because we are talking about a little girl who is clearly screaming for help and again no one comes to her aid until, hours later and multiple bystanders just walk by her, some young men decide to help!. I also understand the point that most people are so focused on their own agenda and the norm is to mind your own business. BUT watching this video I can see that if people would just maybe stop and listen to some “specific clues” then in situations like this more people would help. Clues like “you are not my father” or “somebody help me” these types of clues should make us stop and think that there is something really wrong here and not a child just acting up or throwing a tantrum!.

I was not so surprised that Kitty Genovese didn’t get help from her neighbors because that what we do as an humans not putting ourselves in a danger position someone for someone else. Bystanders Effect happens every single day in our life that we do not stand up to help others because we assume that there is always some else would start helping them before we do. However, I would try to get help for Kitty if I was one of the 38 people. Even though if I wasn’t helping directly by going outside, but I could try to get help from other ways by keeping my lighting on or scream through the window just scare the murder through the window. If we watch someone suffers and die front of us and we don’t get help for them therefore, we are more likely would not get help from others when we getting into the same position.

The videos about Bystander Effect show us how afraid and paralyzed we can be in certain circumstance.
A research proves that if is given to us a question and we know for sure the answer, we still go with the majority of the answers and it is understandable because we want acceptance and to belong to a group. But when the matter is a human being’s life is horrify that we have the same reaction. Drew Carberry said; in the middle of a crowd where nobody is doing nothing, that’s the normal thing to do, and asked: Would Genovese be alive if just one person watched the attack? It is scary but the self-preservation and the fear of being hurt keeps us away to help others. They mentioned the Holocaust as an example of bystander effect and made me think that maybe we still have some remnants from the times when gladiators fought to death while people watching, waiting for someone to die.

I read this story a few years ago and would like to point out that the number of witnesses is exaggerated. Part of the story is false, so I put that into consideration when writing my response. However, that does not take away from the disconcerting atmosphere of the event. I believe that a sense of conformity is a crucial element to the Bystander Effect. No one wants to stand out. No one wants to be an outsider. Everyone wants to follow the majority. For that, someone innocent was gruesomely murdered. However, as shocking as this tragedy was, it is a natural human instinct to merely watch and not provide help. It is because we fear to put our own lives on the line, or we simply think that someone else will help. And unfortunately, altruistic thoughts and actions are rare. In my opinion, The Bystander Effect is a phenomenon that degrades our society and places distrust into people.

Bystander Effect
When it comes to the bystander effect, I would not rely or trust that the people around me or before me already reached out for help. I would treat the situation as if I was the first one to call or even if others called, I would call again. People assume others around have already taken action, when in reality a lot of people are not calling for help thinking that someone else already has. I would check and see what was going on, I could not ignore someone crying for help. Not knowing the situation, I would intervene and ask the victim if she is ok, I would stand by until emergency personnel has arrived. Even if I suspected it was just a couple arguing I would open my door to make sure everything is ok.

The part that shock me was when she was asking for help and also the the neighbors were watching what was happening not body try to help her, watching this new show me that sometimes people do not pay attention on what is happening around then, or if they now they stay away and do not try to help that person. For example, in this case some of the neighbor think that she was drunk and some of then new that she was stab, but no one came to help her, or call the police. In addition at the end, one neighbor came to help her but it was to late, she die in the way to the hospital. This news show us that how people decide to react in some things and that sometimes they do nor want to do something to help other, or to try to help them.

This is just unbelievable. First of all, how can a human being do this to another human like him. I think this murderer is controlled by evil spirit, he can’t be called a human. He is just a sick person, it amazed me the fact that he woke up at around 2 am to kill to kill a women. This guy was married, and he left his wife home and went out very early in the morning to kill another women, I can only say “Jesus have mercy on us”. The other shocking part of this story is, 38 people watched her murdered and did nothing. I wonder if some of them didn’t think it was that serious, I don’t know if they thought they were just two drunk people fighting as the time was 3 am. I know some people don’t want to evolve, but how can all 38 of them didn’t think as that could happen to them or their close family member. It’s my first time hearing this heart breaking story, and I really want to watch the whole investigation why the people that saw her did’t call the police.

The sad truth that people are indifferent to things around them such as nature, animals and even their fellow beings. Basically, this is a psychosocial phenomenon. It is obvious that there were many people witnessing Kitty who were stabbed until dead, but they did nothing to help her because they believed others will interfere or call the police. The case of Kitty Genovese has great influence on society. Bystanders did not respond to her screams that night, they just hesistated to help her and werre busy to try to figure out what was going on down there or what happened to that girl until they really recognized how serious it was.

The most shocking part is that many people where there watching Kitty being killed and no one even though about helping her. If just one person called the police right the way maybe she could survive. Kitty’s story shows us how selfish people can be by just watching the situation but not doing anything to help. Unfortunately many people are afraid to intervene in situations like this because they fear for their own safety.

watching this documentary video, it is easy for everyone to say that we would all hope to be the one to stop such a tragedy from happening. it is sad that this was not the case for this young woman. so many people had the opportunity to save her or to call for help and nobody did. the bystander effect is an eye opener study that makes you realize how stubborn people can be, knowing that someone else will take the responsibility of acting in charge of a situation.

I first read about the Kitty Genovese murder in tenth grade English, about a year ago. I was an article we had to read while the teacher was absent and there were questions we had to answer. It was, you guessed it, part of the Holocaust unit. It demonstrated the bystander effect that would go on to allowing the Holocaust by spearheaded an effort of blatant ignorance towards the smoke and ashes from chimneys where bodies burned en masses, towards the abuse of humanity, and the end of millions of lives. This video was more vivid and PG13 than that article ever got and the details are astounding for the worse of reasons. I am 5’3″ and light enough than any of of my friends could easier pick me up and spin me around, I have zero self defense training and would not win in any fight. This summons the question: What would I do? What would I have done if I were looking out one of the windows? Would I have helped? Would I have at least called the police or invited her in? I don’t know. I hope so.

Watching this video made me uncomfortable, knowing that no one was to save another simply because they all assumed someone else would deal with the problem, because people don’t want to take responsibility when there are more people around, because there it “always” that one person who goes out of their way to help another. Assumptions, in this case, resulted in a negative ending. I think majority of the people don’t help when they are not needed to because it is better to stay out of others problems rather than sacrificing oneself to help another. In this world, sometimes it is necessary to be selfish sometimes, but in this event, selflessness should be applied.

Wow this was honestly ridiculous. People heard her scream and saw it happening but chose not to do anything about it.At this point i realize that this society is selfish. Not even a phone call to the police. How could someone have the heart to watch someone suffer like that and not do a single thing. Especially that one part when someone opened his door and saw it happening right in front of him. All he did was close it. How selfish can someone be. I understand that people were scared and were trying to be safe but at least call the police right away. People need to take action when something like this is taking place. If you cant help and are scared for your own safety just call the police.

It surprised and upset me that many people didn’t take any action to help Kitty. I can understand
that the people must have feared for their own safety so they didn’t have the courage to physically stop the murder from taking place but couldn’t the people have at least called the police when they saw Kitty getting stabbed? Especially the people who kept opening the door and watch the murder happen. If they had the courage and the energy to open the door, then why didn’t they use that energy and courage to call the police ASAP?
Why did it take someone so long to actually call the police for help? This goes on to show
that if a large number of people were to witness something that needed attention and we were all thinking that someone else will eventually do something about it, that though is not going to lead people anywhere and is just going to let the situation take place and it will have a bad ending. People should take action themselves and not rely on others for actions.

I think some people feel a responsible to themselves first before they can feel it for others. what if they intervened and received the same out come as Kitty. People often like to believe that at a given moment, when danger appears that they would do the right thing, rise to the occasion, try to help try and maybe even be the hero although in most cases our instincts kick in and its usually to run or look the other direction. As someone once said; sometime cowards do survive. The bystander effect isn’t just an experiment its a reality. The fact of the matter is more people I am surrounded by the less likely I will help the person in need because in the mind I know someone else besides myself will and can do the deed. The other person doesn’t need all of us. From a neuroscience perspective, there is belief that the brain experiences a kind of tug of war between emotion and rational thinking. If the rational side wins out, we’re more likely to take a logical view of moral situations . Most people in that building took the logical approach that is to not intervene. A self preservation mode. this meant they were not in danger, this meant they didn’t have to engage in something that would be potentially dangerous. NOT EVERONE HAS A SELF SACRICIFING ELEMENT TO THEM. You can choose to help someone without sacrificing yourself. When a crime is occurring some people often watch / witness everything that occurred its happens because they are either in shock or to scared to help but once the crime is committed, the harm is done and the danger is gone, they appear and attempt to help just like that one neighbor who helped kitty in the end. The neighbor exhibited prosocial behavior but clearly, like all the people in that building lacked altruism – a self sacrificing element that would have alternately saved kitty’s life. Had anyone individual acted sooner things could have been different, kitty’s odds of surviving would have been better. But that was then and this is now thank God for cell phones, 911 and quick fast responders who have ALTRUISM BEHAVIOR

All of these examples of situations where people don’t feel uncomfortable or troubled by the fact that other people are in danger makes me question the morality of humans. I understand it’s strange to be put in a situation where you have to do something so drastic as to save someone’s life, because we’re not used to doing that. So people are scared to take action, but their hesitation was shown to have deadly consequences that will live on in their conscience forever. Learning about this bystander effect has helped my awareness of the issue and if in the future I see someone in danger then I won’t wait for some other person to help out.

After watching the video, some of the actions the neighbors took makes sense. Even in today’s society, when people see a car accident, or some type of robbery or incident that affects themselves or their family members, most people will not help in a crowd setting. What really had me wanting to scream was the neighbor at the top of the steps that opened their door. They looked outside for a second, saw the man raping the woman, but closed the door and didn’t do a thing. I would think, If you saw something happening right outside your front door, you would do something, call the police, chase the guy away, anything BUT close the door and ignore what is happening outside the door.

It’s honestly so shocking that people would wake up and hear someone screaming that they were being hurt and all they would do is shout to “leave her alone” and “what’s going on” and not call the police or like go down to where things were happening to defend her. After the man left Kitty alone it would make sense for people to start going down the stairs in order to help her but they all still stayed inside of their houses even when this man came back and finished the job. It’s really just horrific to think about.

I am in complete shock after watching this video. I cant believe that such a horrific crime took place and no-one helped this woman. At one point there were neighbors that opened their door and saw what happening and still did nothing to help. Even if they were in fear for their own safety why didn’t they at least call the police. Really this makes no sense to me.

This video has just brought tears to my eyes, viewing how somebody can loose the precious gift of life, even when somebody in the neighborhood would have rescued her life. It is human nature to ignore our responsibilities, hoping somebody else would do it , after all am not the only one their to help, we keep doing that and having false hopes that somebody else will, hence more damage, even when we could have prevented most of them from happening.

As shocking as this video may be to some, I really wasn’t surprised to find out that 38 people watched quietly while a young woman was stabbed to death. If this same scenario was to happen in today’s society, I imagine that many people would be recording the murder and posting it onto social media instead of intervening and possibly saving a life. Most people would tell you that without hesitation that they would call the police or run down to help the woman out, but that simply isn’t true. Instead, people will assume that somebody else will have the courage to intervene, leading to an instance like the one in this video, where no one assists. After this incident, I wonder if the bystanders had any regret knowing that they easily could have prevented this situation from happening.

It is so bad how all the people that knew that she needed help didn’t do anything. This video shows that there are people that don’t care about helping others when they know that they need it, just because they think that there is someone else that can do it instead of them. As the video says, some people maybe thought that she was drunk but i don’t think so, she was screaming it was obviously that that girl needed help. The neighbors just ignored her.

After watching this video, the murder n the video had made me think more about morals of people in today´s society. If someone was being even hurt or bulled publicly in society, I would step in no matter what the size of the other people or persons. This is murder happening, like another person life is in danger and the bystanders did not even react to the situation. If it was in their life in danger they want would want someone to step in and help them. Even calling the people could of changed the outcome of the situation.
