  1. the movie was very sad and all the the negative experiences impact the charaters in a certain way inwhich they will be impacted forever. The overall message sent by the video was executed and i found the movie very interesting to watch.

  2. This movie was overall filled with roller coaster of emotions. I was sad for the most part but only hoped for a positive outcome. After Robbie got diagnose with Epilepsy, I became more interested in the content and wanted to know the type of epilepsy he had. I also wanted to understand the diagnosis/treatment plan from a physician and parental point of view. My anxiety soon consumed me when Robbie was taken to multiple hospitals and met with different physicians/specialist, but yet his seizures continue to get worse. Despite being on anticonvulsant medications (phenobarbital, Dilantin, tegretol, depakene, etc.), Robbie continue to experience terrible side effects that stripped him of energy, decreased his cognitive abilities and consciousness as he convulses. He also showed a few behavioral changes made me think it was d/t the medications. He seemed hyperactive when he was prescribed the phenobarbital and less active when his prescription changed to the other anticonvulsant medications. When he was running away from his mother in the hospital, it almost appeared as if he was hallucinating when he stated “get away from me, you’re gonna kill me.”
I tend to make predictions before watching a film or reading a book. For this movie, I made a few predictions and prepared myself for something tragic to disturb a happy family but never expected doctors to oppose alternative treatments or withhold medical information that could benefit the patient especially if the family is in favor of trying alternative options.
My interest in the storyline grew as I watch intensely hoping for a cure to surface or for Robbie to “get better”. I felt the different emotions experienced by the family and often had to remind myself that I was watching a movie. It was hard to watch a seemingly healthy child submit to frightened episodes of seizures. Robbie had great support system that cared and loved him. Lori’s love and dedication to her son’s wellbeing brought a great deal of comfort. I felt desperate for her and her family and was in full support of her conducting research and using all outlets to find a cure for her son or at least manage his seizures. I learned a few things about hospitals, business, insurance, etc.

  3. I enjoyed this movie very much, at first I was a little confused on what the movie was about but then 10 minutes into the movie I was able to understand what was going on. I was very disappointed to see how poorly his doctor was taking care of him. I don’t know if it was just me who got this impression but it felt like the doctor was more worried about being right than treating the patient. It’s shocking that the mother had to take extreme attitudes in order to have her son signed out of the hospital. In the other hand, I was very inspired by her, for looking and researching new treatments on her own in order to have her son cured. That shows us that we should not always take the “right way” just because someone else said so. After watching this movie I was able to recall something a doctor told to my mother once, “No one knows your kid better than you do.” and after this movie, I couldn’t agree more.

  4. I almost couldn’t finish watching this movie. So glad it had a happy ending but I was tearing all hour long. I’m a Mom of a boy about Robbie age, so many mix feelings crossed my heart. I saw discrimination, judgment, abuse of power, powerlessess, anger, even faith. I strongly believe that Doctors and scientist study to find cure for any of the human illness, but as Robbie’s Mom, is Ok to follow your guts and do your own research. We shouldn’t make a life matter decisions based on just One opinion . I also wanted to say that this story, like some others, brings a big question mark on how certain information can be used on the wrong way, the opposite. Until last night, I knew the Keto diet was to treat a specific group of patients of some rare conditions….now I understood it better, but I’m tiered of seeing it advertised to “Loose weight”. there’s where I think enters the misused of info and the interests of power.

  5. This movie definitely had me thinking on the emotional roller coaster the sickness of there child affected the parents, Robbie was a normal healthy boy and out of no where he became sick and the parents had no idea what was going on with their child, It amazes me on how the Mom after so much did her own research and tried to get a better understanding on what was going on with her son and if there was any other cure instead of trial medication. In a way the doctors should of explained everything better to the parents instead of just throwing options to them in terms they barely understood, The mom had a feeling that what the doctors we’re doing wasn’t enough and there was more to try for Robbies health. While the father was working to be able to pay for the medical bills and to keep the house, Also the other siblings felt the pain on what was going on with their younger brother they had no control on what was happening and they as well didn’t understand what to do or how to react to everything going on.

  7. Watching this movie was very heart wrenching. It’s scary how realistic it is as well, Robbie was a healthy, active kid then suddenly, he’s diagnosed with epilespy and his family is immediatley burdened with numerous medical bills and almost lost their house. This movie also shows that doctor’s may not know what the right approach is and sometimes you may need to go with what your gut tells you, like when the mother was constantly beign let down and going through trial and error. When watching this you’re also put in many point of views, you can see how painful it is as a parent or sibling to see a young child in pain. It was also very relieving when you see Robbie recovering after all he’s been through.

  8. This movie was very heartbreaking, it was tough to watch what that family was going through. I put myself in the mother’s shoes and it would of took everything I got to keep hope. Despite the financial, emotional and other struggles the mother faced she still had hope the diet would work and save her son. So I admire the mother for never losing faith that her son would recover. However I disliked the doctor, throughout the movie she gave off a nonchalant vibe as if she didn’t really care that much about the little boy’s recovery. It’s crazy to think some doctors wouldn’t back up the diet because it doesn’t benefit them making money off of it.

  9. Thoughts : Doctors abused and took advantage of the whole family , taking them on a physical and emotional ride . The doctors took advantage of their trust , their hopelessness . Simply for a simple answer , the Ketogenic diet . Pumping drugs into Robbie only made it worse and in my opinion it seem liked they were using Robbie as an experiment . Even with solid proof that a 3rd of people who have underwent the Ketogenic diet become drug and seizure free , the doctors refused and insisted that the diet does not in fact work. That movie was simply a journey of that families will power , a showcase of how far they will go to see their son be “normal” again . It was a showcase of perseverance .

Comments : I knew epilepsy was a devastating disorder but I never knew the depths of it and how difficult and severe the effects are on , the person with the disorder and also the surrounding family and friend . No one truly knows how emotionally and physically draining the disorder is . Except the ons who are involved .

Opinion : If I was the parent of a child with epilepsy I would not go forward any meds at the first sign of my Childs emotions undergoing a change . Even physically you can see the toll all those anti epileptic drugs had on Robbie . All around a triumphant story of one family doing all they can and all they will to make sure one of theres is healthy and good in health .

  10. yet another amazing, captivating and sad movie. they are getting better each time. This story really got me in my feelings considering I have a small baby boy. I become a cry baby now. I can’t imagine the pain of a mother watching your kid literally dying right before your eyes. what’s also got my attention is toes how things have progress to a point now kept diet is use to help people loose weight.
This mother deserve an award because she was determine on saving her son no matter the cost. Even though they were drowning in debt, but that did not stop her. And those doctors should have loose their licenses for malpractice. they were just experimenting drug on this poor kid. So sad. But I am glad it had a happy ending for this little boy

  11. As I was watching the movie “Do No Harm” I couldn’t help but feel bad for the entire family, especially Robbie. The beginning of this movie started with the “perfect” American family (a healthy marriage, and healthy kids), however, that was soon to change. After hearing that Robbie fell again at the playground, I became very suspicious that there was such much worse going on. Seeing a young child suffer from such a seizure is most definitely traumatic to all those involved. As a parent you feel like it is all your fault, your heartbreaks seeing your child suffer from something you have no control over. Not only that but it was awful to watch the family suffer even more by trusting these doctors, and putting all their faith into these medications. Robbie’s epilepsy was treated with a never-ending cycle of drugs, which was supposed to treat his symptoms but instead did the exact opposite. These medications ruined Robbie’s childhood even worse than his epilepsy; he was forced to act like a zombie, or even worse like a drunk. Thankfully, Robbie’s mother made the choice most caring mothers would’ve made and done her research. Robbie’s mother was able to find a solution called the Ketogenic Diet (told by a doctor in Baltimore). Dr. Kelly the nutritionist was much more experienced with the disorder and was able to prove Robbie with the right treatments, unlike Robbie’s local doctors. If the family put any more trust and money into Robbie’s supposed medical treatments, the outcome would have been even worse (perhaps death). Robbie’s path to a healthy childhood was full of twists and turns. These events not only affected Robbies but also the family emotionally and financially.

  12. This was not the first time I’ve seen this movie, but every time it moves me the same. It’s actually really shocking to see how much damage a doctor can do whilst only having the best intentions. But I think a really important aspect of this movie is instinct, sometimes you have a feeling and ignoring it is the most dangerous thing you can do. This movie is such a tearjerker, it makes me think about all the kids like Robbie who didn’t have a mom like he did. The risks she was willing to take and the choices she made. Most people go with what the doctors say and why shouldn’t they? I think a significant part of society places physicians, surgeons, and/or nurses on a pedestal close to God. At the end of the day however, they’re still just people and far from perfect ones at that. I especially loved how the movie showed the experience of everyone in the family, we were able to see the effects of one person’s illness on many people. I really think everyone should watch this movie, it’s just a reminder to me that doctors don’t always know everything, people tend to know more than they believe they do.

  13. the movie First Do No Harm really did a good job showing how much of an impact raising a child with an illness can have on a family. This movie really hit home for me since i grew up with a chronic illness and i have seen my family go through what this family was going through, from the simple happy life to the constant state of stress the entire family must deal with. The family also has to deal with the fact that their own doctors are prescribing tons of medicine that are affecting robbies body in a negative way without knowing if these medications are even working for him which creates this sense of animosity and distrust for the parents towards the doctors but they really can not do much about since you really do not have the years of medical experience these doctors have. Seeing how supportive Robbies family is and how they were always there for him was really impactful for me because it shows just how important family really is.
